Fashion Commerce

Roland Barthes said “I am today what you will be tomorrow.” Now there is no tomorrow in fashion. There is only today. There’s a whole industry now of cheap fashion producers who can create pieces in eight weeks. This weakens our relationship with our customers and it undermines the idea of a master craftsman. Creating clothes used to take months; it used to be a labor of love; it required an expertise learned over years. As a result, the clothes were works of art. Customers would save up to buy them because they knew they would last forever. When you see what is produced today you have to ask: Can we blame the customer if today they don’t respect fashion anymore?
